Hi John,
I'll leave the technical answers to the experts as I have also wondered the
same thing, although figure it must be our current location in NA and the
earth/sun positions. It has been real quiet since the 5th/6th of February,
although things seem to be getting better. Today the HC2FG/b in Ecuador and
the HC8GR/b in the Galapagos were in around 17:00-18:00 UTC, so the band was
open, just not to a very populated/broad area apparently.
