I inquired several weeks ago on the reflector, about suggestions for scanning old 35-mm slides and negatives into positives, in digital format for archiving. I received a number of suggestions, together with some offers of hardware.
After further investigating, I decided to purchase my own inexpensive scanner. I hadn't realized that they had come down so far in price. For under $50, I bought an SVP model KS1000 scanner. It comes with two holders. One holds up to 4 35-mm slides. The other holds negative strips up to 6-negs long. Most of the developing labs had returned processed film in strips of 5, so that works well.
I've scanned several strips, with very good results. The hardware includes software (BlazePhoto) which provides editing capabilities . The task is a bit slow, primarily due to the time in loading individual strips, Further slowed if the strip has warped over time in storage (many have). But it looks like it will do what I need, when I can find the time. Right now, scanning the old issues of Cheese Bits is competing for my available time! But that task is progressing nicely, with issues through 1977 completed, and then posted on the club reflector ( www.packratvhf.com ) by Ron (Go to Club Newsletter - Cheese Bits, then Cheese Bits Archives). If you have time, read a few of the old issues. They are are fun and informative to read through.
Thanks again for the many offers of information and/or help.
Bert, K3IUV
