Bert,
I have 2 IC-03ATs and have been using the BP-7x battery from Batteries America for nearly 2 years now without damaging them.

Early ICOM hand-helds (like the 2AT [144] or 3AT [220]) used either a:
-- BP-2 (six AA, NiCad, 7.2V) battery pack
-- BP-3 (six mini AA, 8.4V) battery pack
-- BP-4 (Replaceable holder, for six AA alkaline or NiCad)
-- BP-5 (nine AA, NiCad, 10.8V) battery pack
Icom later produced a BP-7 battery pack, using NiMH cells, which produced 13.2V. The BP-7 was made available when some later model radios were introduced (like the 2GAT, 3GAT, etc., and the mechanical interface matches the earlier packs. I have obtained one of these BP7 packs.
Current third-party advertisements for the BP-7 suggest it is suitable for use with the earlier 2AT and 3AT radio models. The identical mechanical interface also suggests the viability.
The manual for the IC-2AT indicates a voltage range of 6 to 16v is usable with this radio.
I'm wondering whether anyone on the Reflector has actually used the BP-7 on these earlier units, since I'd hate to damage them While antique, they still performs perfectly on simplex or repeater use.
