[222mhz] 222 MHz SSB activity in San Bernardino/Riverside, CA area

Well 220-222 is not an amateur band anymore.hasn't been for years...there
are HUNDREDS of 220-222 ACSSB  trunk systems across the country that are
unused, turned off, etc (I know of 3 myself at sites where I maintain
commercial UHF company P25 rptrs)...now VNBFM (Very Narrow Band FM) or
SLIVER band as I like to call it, is making its way to the band, and
MOTOROLA sells radios for that range now! When the FCC took 220-222 away,
they LIED when they said it would be used for innovative and narrowband
technology only..turning down the deviation on a FM radio to less than 2 kHz
deviation is nothing new or innovative..those of us running FM below 29.0
have been doing that for decades J ACSSB was a nice IDEA but it didn't
last..cellular/PTT on PCS has pretty well killed normal LMR radio & I lost
link and control channels when the FCC took away 220-222.

BUT I still enjoy 222-225!!! I have more money in that band alone than any
other band. Even in the piney woods of SE TX, it outdoes 2mtrs!!! The signal
levels drop off faster BUT then they plateau out...while 2m keeps on heading
toward the noise...pretty soon, you cant hear the 2m station but the 222
signal is still there.DON'T ask me why but it does J

I think 220 - 222 is a great band that goes largely ignored because of the
lack of equipment and the comparatively high price of what is available.
