[222mhz] FT-33 Question

I just acquired a new FT-33. I have had FT-23, FT-33, FT-73 for years.
Everything works great with this new FT-33. But I noticed something
unusual. The "Signal Strength" bars at the bottom of the display flash
almost full scale. But if I open squelch there is nothing there. I thought
it might be my LAN or other toys. But I did notice a regularity to it.
After TX or RX activity, the bars will be full scale ~5 seconds, then fall
back into the rhythm of on ~1/2 second and off ~3/4 second. I've decided it
is indicating the power save function. The manual doesn't mention this
other than the power save function.
None of the other FT-x3 have ever done this.
I'm thinking if I can turn this flashing display off, it can save even more
power and not be distracting.

TIA

www.condor-connection.com has GE MSTR II and MICOR to 220 documents...
I never have had good luck with a MICOR.....the GE on the other hand is
great...AND you can add a preamp AFTER the helical front end if needed
(phono plug connections)...
There are a couple of other good sites as well; Here are my favs:

http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/ethernet/749/ham/220.html
http://www.seits.org/repeater/220micor/220.html
http://www.qsl.net/n5sdd/mods/mods/ge/220mstr2.mod
http://www.condor-connection.org/mods/mastr2.htm
http://www.condor-connection.org/mods/mvp.htm
http://www.qsl.net/n5sdd/mods/mods/ge/220mvp.mod

-->  http://gael.lumpkin.k12.ga.us/mods/220.htm <--
BEST detail & easy to follow site...well done and I HIGHLY recommend it
(NOTE: you dont need the de-emph board if your controller can do it OR you
run FLAT audio through the rptr....this requires mods in the controller and
exciter but allows you to pass user PL thru...and audio is EXACTLY as the
input is....also go with the SAV-15/M57774 brick for the PA)

Hope that helps..
