In the " spirit " of the topic, I agree with the bandplan setup.
I also agree that as time passes, and technology advances, some
" tweaks " if I may call them that, to the bandplans might be in
order to accomodate various modes of operation.

There is one point made here, that in all my years as a ham I have
seen it argued over, and beaten to death; Quote follows:

> Those who "do anything legal because they can" quickly find
> themselves outcasts and unwelcome by most people.

#2

> My own opinion, and historically it has been shared by the
> vast majority of people on 160, is that people who do not

> be considered as not really in the sprit that dominates
> topband.

Gentlemen; this is not my personal comment, it is the FCC rules:

An Amateur operator will use only the minimum power necessary to
maintain reliable 2 way communications.

This has been beaten to death, and yet is still " violated "
every single day, simply because " I'm allowed to " Do you fall
into that catagory ?? Do you use 1500 watts to talk to your buddy
30 miles away ?? I don't have a Linear Amplifier, never needed one.
But even at the 100 watt level, when 10 watts would easily maintain
the communication, Would you " QRP " ?? Probably not, because
" you don't have to " You earned the right, you got your ticket.
I wonder how many " feel " or have said those statements.

It's fun to preach, until the sermon flies back to hit you in the face.
There is not a single one of us who has followed the rules as I said
earlier, tit for tat, jot and tittle. totally legalistic like.

I was very active in the late 80's on A.M. when the argument that
A.M. should be " illegalized " on the HF bands because of the BW
it took, and the QRM it caused to SSB operators. And that was on
80 meters. MAN !! when someone mentioned running A.M. on 1885 KHz
you would have thought some people were going to die from a heart
attack. " How could they ?? this is 160 meters !! "

My final comment, and this one is personal; On opinion #2,

> people who do not follow bandplans because they
> "don't have to" are what can be considered as not really in
> the sprit that dominates topband.

This type of mentality is why you hear stuck in their rut old men
droning on, and on, on 160 meters about a useless bunch of bull.
OR; the band is totally dead. Let someone like myself come along
and try to generate a little activity apart from the " cut & dried "
norm, and look how long it took the old dogs to come out from under
the porch, barkin, and growlin, at the new pup who made the mistake
of wonderin into " their " yard.. Gentlemen, I'll take the bone I
came in with and leave the yard now, Y'all can go back under the
porch now and go back to sleep. This is un-necessary, and not
needed by my nerves. My life on this earth is short, and stuff like
this is a useless waste of it.

Tom: Thank you for allowing me on the list, I will un-subscribe
shortly.
