Aha...!

So THAT was the "...mysterious" second antenna that you tested with me last
week, comparing it to your vertical...

You did, indeed, morph into the proverbial "invisible man" with it, Tom --- 
I could hear absolutely zilch from your station whenever you transmitted
through the dipole (I wonder how it behaved on receive at those times...?).

This has been a most worthwhile exercise. My thanks to Brian (VE3MGY) for
delving into it the way he did, AND for sharing his results with everyone...
