This will be the first contest with the Orion. I just was just going through
the normal procedure of checking out my station on test gear prior to the
CQWW 160, and I noticed a small discrepancy in the Orion's CW rise and fall
settings.
The rise and fall really is about 3mS with the 10mS menu setting. That is
more than hard enough, so I hope everyone uses the 10mS settings!!! If you
get down around the 4mS end and you are strong, it will cause adjacent
channel problems. The 10mS setting should be ok for ~500Hz spacing in most
cases, except next to weak DX where you might want to be 800-1000 Hz away.
I'm sure TT will address that minor software issue, they been great about
keeping up with things so far.
Also I'm pretty sure the latest firmware has a change that disables the RX
antenna port while transmitting. If you don't have the latest firmware
installed, I'd suggest upgrading before the contest. The nice thing about
these upgrades is we can all have current production model radios!
