It's doubtful that you will notice any improvement in your transmitted
signal but it may reduce QRN some on receive.
I'm currently experimenting with what I call the CC&R antenna. It's a 1/4
wave insulated wire on 160 meters and is literally laying on the ground like
a ground radial, in between two of the 32 ground radials. Using 800 watts
signal reports received from within 500 miles of my central Florida QTH have
been similar to the 1/4 wave inverted L up at 35 feet. To avoid interaction
the conventional 1/4 wave L was taken down.
It's doubtful that it will work DX in say Europe but it's intended use is
for rag chewing from a 1/4 acreville location with CC&R restrictions.

Subject: [160m] 160 Meter antenna
Hello
I recently put up a shortened 160 meter inverted V. It is around 170' long
(with loading coils) and the peak of the antenna is about 52' up (yes, I
know it is a cloud burner!) I have been planning to get the antenna up a
bit higher, but it is going to take some work. I think I can get the
antenna up around 65 to 70'. My question is, will this make much
difference? I don't really know what to expect by only moving the antenna
up 15 to 20 feet and I don't want to go through a lot of work if I won't
notice much difference. I live on a small city sized lot so I don't have
many options as far as antennas go. Thanks for any suggestions or opinions.
