Hi everyone,
I am attempting to locate any information on the old 2 MHz
Public Coastal stations that existed in the South Florida
area back in the 1960's and 1970's.

These stations were the prime method of communications for
vessels out to 300 miles offshore in the days prior to the
establishment of the current VHF-FM Marine band (156-157 and
161-162 MHz) in the mid 1970's.

The stations I remember listening to the most were:
-------------------------------
 WDR (Miami)
 WDR-2 (Miami)
 Nassau Radio
 the US Coast Guard

...There were several others on-the-air in that period.

Growing up in Miami, I had gotten interested in radio in the
mid-1960's and had modified an old tube-type AM Broadcast
radio to listen to the 160-meter amateur band, only to
discover there was a marine band just above it!

The modified radio would receive 1700 to 2780 kHz. Since
all communications in those days were in the AM "phone"
mode, on both the marine and ham bands, it was all great fun
for a nine-year-old kid. (...Santiago "Sandy" Arroyo,
WA4KSD was my Elmer.)

I am looking for old frequency information, photographs,
memorabilia, etc. which could be
photographed/scanned/photocopied. I am interested in
hearing from anyone who might have been employed for these
stations.

If you are in Florida, and have an old 2 MHz AM marine radio
in a corner somewhere, look and see what frequencies were in
it. I would be interested in knowing.

All information will be greatly appreciated.
