I have equipped it with the Inrad roofing filter and it has done a very good job over the years, although it has been mostly switched off during the last 10 years. Listened to the contest today and it suddenly went dead. First it switched off and on by itself a few times and then it went black. Could hear a slight bump in the speaker and then nothing. Checked the mains fuse, but it's ok. What I haven?t done yet is supplying it directly with 12 Volts, since it could be the built-in power supply. Even though I'm waiting for a new radio, I really don't feel getting rid of it yet. Anybody has an idea? 73 Rainer SM5LBR From garyskillicorn at hotmail.com Sat Oct 30 08:45:51 2021 From: garyskillicorn at hotmail.com (gary skillicorn) Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2021 12:45:51 +0000 Subject: [1000mp] MY FT-1000MP JUST WENT DEAD In-Reply-To: <002f01d7cd86$1117c080$33474180$@net> References: <002f01d7cd86$1117c080$33474180$@net> Message-ID: I had an identical situation recently with same symptoms. For what I hear, this is likely the result of aging capacitors in the internal power supply. Rather than dive into replacing capacitors and possibly causing additional harm, I chose to power it with an external 12-volt power supply. It's been performing fine and is probably operating a little cooler now. That's how I dealt with it. ________________________________ From: 1000mp-bounces at mailman.qth.net <1000mp-bounces at mailman.qth.net> on behalf of RADIO SM5LBR Sent: Saturday, October 30, 2021 8:02 AM To: 1000mp at mailman.qth.net <1000mp at mailman.qth.net> Subject: [1000mp] MY FT-1000MP JUST WENT DEAD My MP is from around 1996. In order to use external 12V power, you would have to open the enclosure, unplug the internal power supply from it?s connector. Then route the cable from the external power connector to where the internal power supply was formerly connected. You would think there should be a switch to select either power source. But that?s not the way it?s done on the 1998 version. Your 1996 radio will likely require the above procedure in order to use external power. I had heard that there is an internal high voltage module that drives the display, but I have no experience with that. You need to be able to remove the supply then open it up to replace these it is not a job to be tackled unless your familiar with such work you have to remove the PA unit to ge the supply out. You can test that this is the problem by using external supply. Wish you luck 73 Morris WA4MIT On Saturday, October 30, 2021, 07:05:00 AM CDT, RADIO SM5LBR wrote: My MP is from around 1996. See www.sm2cew.com/FT1000MP%20MkV%20problem%20-%20rig%20tuning%20down%20in%20frequency%20by%20itself.pdf Since performing the mod I have never seen the display delay that I saw earlier. My display always comes on instantly when my MkV is switched on. Before it was quite annoying to sit and wait for the display to come on, sometimes a minute delay in my case. So maybe the problem is linked to the apparently underdimensioned small SMD 7805 that eventually fails and causes other problems. Just a suggestion from me.. 73 Peter SM2CEW At 10:49 2021-10-31, you wrote: >My FT1000MP MK V (circa 1997) has a display delay. >When turning on the rig after not using it for a week the display is >dark, blank, nothing. >Then, after several minutes the display comes on and everything is ok. >But if I turn on the rig after using it the day before, then there >is no delay. >Is there a simple fix? >tnx de Ken >______________________________________________________________ >1000mp mailing list >Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/1000mp >Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm >Post: mailto:1000mp at mailman.qth.net > >This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net >Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html From ariabob at woh.rr.com Sun Oct 31 10:08:44 2021 From: ariabob at woh.rr.com (ariabob at woh.rr.com) Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2021 14:08:44 +0000 Subject: [1000mp] FT1000MP MK V display delay Message-ID: <151a454c115f6bd6fa620779d720863d0104560a@webmail> FT-1000MP Repairs Hey, everyone.
