Gary, A while back I noticed this internet site for a repair service that specializes in Yaesu, and I _think_ you can call them and get advice: http://www.hamradiobug.com/ <http://www.hamradiobug.com/>. I have not used them myself.  I know there are other repair outlets that will give advice if you call in. 

Another tip is to search on Youtube.com <http://youtube.com/> and Google.com <http://google.com/> for something like “yaesu FT-1000 Mark V repair” and probably come up with instructions on navigating the guts of these splendid transceivers. I don’t think I could do it because I don’t have the workspace. I recall there is a YouTube channel called “MrCarlsonsLab” showing a teardown and repair.
