Performance otherwise is ok. Before I dig in to inspect the inverter board anyone have ideas of what I'll likely find. Anyone have experience with inverter boards sold on Ebay? I'd rather not go the LED display replacement mod unless I have to. No need to think about replacing the inverter board unless you determine that the transformer is shot. First thing to do is to replace the electrolytic cap on the board.? You will have one or two surface mount fuses on the board and one of those is likely open.? You can buy a replacement from Mouser (or maybe Yaesu). If a previous owner has replaced the fuse(s) with a piece of wire, make sure to reinstall a fuse. These parts can be replaced for a couple of bucks or less.? When you have that problem fixed, consider shortening the high voltage leads coming out of the inverter board.? They're likely a few inches longer than they need to be and your display may brighten up when these leads are shortened. The LED replacement route has gotten a bit more difficult as the USA supplier of the hardware no longer sells it.? You can, however, buy what you'd need from a ham in Spain (call escapes me at the moment) for somewhere around $125. 73, Floyd - K8AC > Message: 6 > Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2019 14:25:54 +0000 > From: gary skillicorn > To: "1000mp at mailman.qth.net" <1000mp at mailman.qth.net> > Subject: [1000mp] Display Dead FT-1000MP > Message-ID: > > > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" > > It was not a gradual dimming but a sudden loss of the display preceded by a faint smell of a hot component. I have not used them myself. I know there are other repair outlets that will give advice if you call in. Another tip is to search on Youtube.com and Google.com for something like ?yaesu FT-1000 Mark V repair? and probably come up with instructions on navigating the guts of these splendid transceivers. I don?t think I could do it because I don?t have the workspace. I recall there is a YouTube channel called ?MrCarlsonsLab? showing a teardown and repair. Good luck. I hope this helps. I wrote up a description of the repair and it's available on VA3CR's excellent resource: http://www.va3cr.net/1000MP/Problems/DisplayFailure.htm Hope that helps.
