Bought one of the first production run 18 (?) years ago for $US 4K. Still
working fine. Added INRAD roofing filter which helps with close in signals
and noise blanking and also another mod to make audio a bit crisper (cap and
resistor change?). Works well on SSB, CW, and digital modes. DXCC HR and
8BDXCC barefoot with roof top antennas on row house in city centre. 200 wts
probably helps. Most of my filters are Yaesu, found on eBay or reflector
for reasonable prices as others upgraded to the somewhat better INRADs. At
the time, MK5 was top of the line for DX and contesting and is still a very
competitive rig such that I'm still not seriously considering upgrading,
even though the FT5000 or K3 are very nice rigs but are at least 3x the $$$
once fully tricked out against what you're looking at. Once you get it,
check out the FT1000MP web site for lots of tips and good reference
materials. http://www.va3cr.net/

Subject: [1000mp] Some FT1000MP MK5 questions
I have found a Yaesu FT1000MP MK5 at a good price, and am wondering about
the reliability of this model. Are there any common problems that show up
with age? Is $1095 plus shipping a pretty good price for this model with
stock filters?
Also, will the FH-2 keypad, used with current Yaesus, work on the MK5 also,
in place of the FH-1.
