[1000mp] Defective MKV

For the life of me, I can not find how to start a new thread on this list.
I had to use somebody else posting to be able to send this message.
I apologize for my clumsiness.

I have recently purchased a defective FT1000 Mark V, the one
with an external power supply. The price was to good to pas it on :)

The previous owner explained that the rig just died on him in the middle
of a transmission. Among others he checked his 20m high, single band 20m
band antenna and found that his tower was laying on the ground, the antenna
smashed and the feeder cable cut. Now, this is what I call a disaster :)

Well, now the rig its mine. So what is wrong with it?

Power supply turns on just fine, the red LED id illuminated
and the fan is turning.

However when I switch the radio on, the power supply dies.
The LED is extinguished and the fan stops :( If I turn off the rig
the LED is illuminating once again and I can hear the fan turning.

IMHO there are two possibilities. Or the PS went sour and can not support even
the receiver only load or the rig somehow presents a short circuit somewhere that
induces current limiting into the PS.

To check the PS is probably need to load it with an other load than the rig. Unfortunately
I do not have a mating connector to attach the load to the PS. I will need to
improvise something. I just hope that the finals have survived.

I am dire need of a Technical supplement manual. I can observe that some one is offering
it for 30 bucks. I thing this is a bit to much even if it comes in a 3 ring binder:)

Did any one had a similar problem with his rig and how was it solved?

Any suggestion will be welcomed.
