[1000mp] USB-to-Serial adaptors

Experience here is that both FTDI and Prolific chip set adaptors work with
Windows 7 Home Premium and Pro, both x32 and x64 with both N1MM and Logger32
software. IRRC the very early drivers in WIN7 didn't work and you had to get
drivers from the manufacturer, but in current releases, the standard driver
install is OK for CAT and to toggle the RTS and DTR pins.

The key to success when choosing a USB-to-serial adapter is to AVOID the
ones using Prolific driver. Purchase one with the FTDI chipset. You should
be able to find out 'what's inside' by going to the website of the
manufacturer of the device, if not described on the package.
I don't use one myself (yet) but have learned this from overwhelming
user-evidence described on the N1MM Logger mail reflector.
