This is the "solution" what you MUST NOT do. You will badly screw up the display board.
Most likely, your inverter trafo is dying. The simplest is to order an inverter board. It costs about 30 euro and it is plug and play. If you want to prevent problems happening again, you have to shorten and reroute the HV line towards the display. I can send you a photo how it should be done.

Well it finally died, my display. For the past couple weeks it was sluggish
starting up.
I haven't opened it up yet but from what I was able to find online there is
a
power supply, supplying high voltage to the display, which fails. It has a
thermistor in series (with something). I wonder if anyone has any info
on the specs for such a device? Anything you have tried which worked?
