Hi Dan

I had the same fault a couple of years ago. It was the power supply.
Sometimes it would not start at all but if left switched on it would
finally work, maybe after a few hours!

I took the power supply to a local marine radio repair shop here in East
Malaysia. They tested it for several days and could not replicate the
fault. I got it home put it back into the rig and it worked for a little
while then the same thing happened. I was going to U.K. so I took the
power supply with me to have it checked there. I shipped it off to the
workshop and they checked it - just like in East Malaysia it worked
perfectly, the fault did not appear but the technician re-soldered all
the joints anyway.

I brought it back home, fitted it back in the rig and the fault appeared
again :-(( At that point I left the rig switched on for a couple of days
(there was no sign of power, no LED's lit, nothing) but it eventually
came to life and started working normally. That was 2 or 3 years ago and
it has worked fine ever since -- no parts were replaced or renewed so
figure that one out!! Thing is others have come across exactly the same
problem.

BTW I checked the rig using an external DC supply when I had the mains
power supply out and there was nothing wrong with the transceiver
itself.

Not much help but that's my story - my advice? - leave it switched on
for a day or two and see what happens!
