[1000mp] Intermittent Sensitivity on 17 Meters

Randy,
I had the same issue with mine. It seems there are several relays that could be involved, and some non-relay problems, too. After much internal torment (I have ALWAYS repaired my own gear), I sent it off to Byron Campbell, WA4GEG, in Tennessee. I have not regretted that decision. He has a standard repair/refurb package that includes replacement of several of the high failure rate relays, a thorough alignment and a few mods he has developed. Byron has a very strong following of satisfied customers (search the web under his name), and is fast and thorough. Because he limits his work to FT-1000s, he can concentrate on one radio's idiosyncrasies, and find faults quickly. Check his website:

It's worthwhile to send him an email outlining your issues; he'll get back quickly. But his schedule is usually loaded, so don't expect to get a slot for a few weeks. He'll tell you when (and how) to send it, so you're without the radio for a minimum time. In my case I had a cracked trace in one of the boards. He found it and fixed it with very little added cost beyond the standard charge. I would still be hunting it down!
My radio came back better aligned that when it was new! If I had to make this decision again, it would be a no-brainer!
Good Luck & 73,
Chuck, N4NM

Subject: [1000mp] Intermittent Sensitivity on 17 Meters
Hello
I have a Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V that has developed sensitivity problems on
17 meters.
I can temporarily recover sensitivity by tapping the PTT but it soon returns
to this faulty condition.
By reading this reflector it seems the problem could be the tiny relay on
the HPF board in the 17 meter circuit.
I need some advice on the difficult getting to this board and changing the
relay.
I am moderately experienced in solder work but my eyes are not like they
used to be.
I'm looking for someone that may have done this work for some tips.
Does Yaesu provide replacement relays?
Thanks,
Randy
