[1000mp] It''s terrible to get old! RTTY help please.

OK, 
 I have used my MP on RTTY before but it has been 10 years ago or so.
 I am trying to get back into it.
 I have a USB audio device connected to the computer and have the MP connected to it via two Radio Shack transformers. This is my old stuff that was still wired. I am running in LSB. I am connecting  to the Packet input like I have before.  I can print very well using MMTTY on RTTY amd Digipan on PSK31. 
I can hear great but cannot key the transmitter. I am not keying the PTT but was trying to use VOX. Even when I key the transmitter manually there is no output.  I have checked the cable from the rig and it is OK. The transformers are not open or shorted. 
 Is it not possible to use VOX or must I use PTT? The 5 pin packet connector that I used before did not have anything soldered to the PTT or BUSY pins. 
 I am obviously missing something and would appreciate some assistance.
