Roy,

You are correct.  Build your own and you have what you want and need.
This way it is possible to extend the useful life of the computer.
Most 'ready made' brand name machines are optimized for lower cost.

That's why I build my own computers, I  choose a motherboard that I
can tailor my build with multiple PCI and expansion slots for future
upgrades or to keep using older interfaces.
