I haven't used it with my 1000MP but the Tripp-Lite Keyspan USA-19HS has
worked fine with my laptop and FT-857 (the little computer goes with the
little radio; the big computer, which has a serial port, goes with the
big radio.) The advantage of the Keyspan is not so much the hardware
(there really aren't that many USB/Serial chip designs) as it is the
driver -- the Windows driver is very good and there is a nifty
configuration utility that lets you assign COM port numbers,
fiddle with timing options to make cranky interfaces work (I never had
to), run diagnostics, etc.
It does occur to me that I've only used it on 32-bit Windows systems.
The Tripp-lite website shows they've had 64-bit drivers since 2007 so I
doubt there's a problem, but I have no personal experience.
