Hello John,
You most likely got a faulty switch. It is easy to check.
On my website you will find a detailed description with photos how to get the frontplate off. You will see how to get to the main switch.

It shows a plain MP, but the MkV is essentially the same process.

Subject: [1000mp] Power switch problem
The Power switch on my Mk. V has been acting up recently. When I try to
turn off the radio, the button goes to the Off (out) position, but the
radio stays on. Usually switching it On and Off again once will correct
the problem, but occasionally it takes several cycles to get it to work.
Has anyone else encountered this failure? How big a job is it to
disassemble the front panel to the point where the switch can be
replaced? Thanks!
73,
John, K9MM
