Dear Barry VK6WF:

    Thanks for the hint.  I will double check, but I think that each of 
those settings (flat vs. tuned) were tried.  I use "tuned" on my FT1000 MkV.

    The IF gain setting in menu 9 was also tried and seemed to have no 
effect, which is to be expected if the non-linearity is prior to the 
affected gain.
