Jim:

You definitely did not waste anyone's time.

After reading your posting I got out my scope, connected a stereo cable to
the AF Out jack and proceeded to duplicate your results. I find that the
monitor audio from CW is present on both of the two channels when the rig is
keyed. The RX audio is present on both channels when the rig is not keyed.
During the time the PTT is on -- when there is no CW being sent and the
Monitor Function is OFF --- neither the RX audio nor the Monitor audio is
present.

I do not know how my friend missed this when we tested the other evening. I
am sorry about the bad information that I sent to the reflector.

After checking the CW tone output I tried using a microphone and found that
it also put out a signal when the PTT was ON and the Monitor Function had
been selected.

That suggests that we should be able to record both sides of a conversation
if the Monitor Function is active.

The pk-pk voltage from the AF OUT is limited to about 400 mV. The monitor
output is reduced if the RF output control is turned nearly off. As you turn
it on the Monitor signal increased up to the maximum output permitted..

I guess that one should be sure to run the cable from the AF OUT into a
circuit that will accept stereo inputs. Maybe the problem that had been
noticed early is caused by a stereo plug being inserted into a mono jack.
