[1000mp] noise blanker

sometimes I get S5-S7 noise. I think it might be a neighbor using some device based upon the time of day/week
that it occurs.  The noise blanker NB2 on the FT-1000MP eliminates the noise and phone reception is ok. But the noise blanker causes cw
signals to become distorted and difficult to copy. I'm using 500 Hz filter @8.125 and 250Hz filter @455.
Is there anything I can do to stop the distortion? 
Is the noise blanker on the FT-2000 any better?
