I had VFO A sieze on me this past August, it slowly got harder to turn until
I wasn't able to do so without the assistane of pliers. I called Yaesu, the
tech told me to remove the rubber sleeve, undo the hex screw, tilt the radio
with the front up so that the light household oil (3 in one, sewing machine,
etc.) would be able to decend into the bushing(s) and apply several drops, I
did 3, every few hours, until it is freed up.

He stated that the grease used dries out and that I should do this oil
procedure every 2 or 3 years for trouble free operation. I did both VFOs on
my MP and on my Mk V, result effortless tuning again.

When I first got my used 1000MP I read through the archives on this
reflector. I noticed a few threads about the tuning shaft freezing up to the
point where it couldn't be turned. There were suggestions to put a drop of
oil on the shaft and let it work into the sleeve to free things up.

My MP is in a basement hamshack, where spring and fall humidity levels
can be relatively high. Is it a good idea to put that drop of oil on the
shaft
(and on the sub receiver's tuning shaft) even though there is currently no
hint of binding? Would Hoppe's Number 9 be suitable? Or is this an urban
legend- an unnecessary procedure or one that should be avoided?

Hi k3an

I would leave well alone the oiling of the shaft if yaesu have not
recommended it I wouldn?t bother personally I think when and if the vfo Nob

Seizes up other issues come in to play as apposed to a lack of oil.

After using the FTV1000 most of the summer getting sick of the out of
balance vibration through my work desk when i am on 6M.
I have just pulled the fan and find it is the same design although miniature
of the old oil heaters.
Same fan is used in the MKV but bolted down solid.
In the FTV1000 it is on two flimsy brackets and it vibrates.
Has anyone changed these fans and is there a better brand thanks.
failing that I will mount two 3 inch muffins instead.

I had to oil both shafts at one time or the other.

I used sewing machine oil and I think WD-40 at one time.
