[1000mp] dumb question on RX ANT OUT

Hi Tonno

What Billy says is right. Just to elaborate and confuse it a bit more:  

1) If you select Ant A (for TX) and push the RX button on the front
panel the received signal from Ant A appears at the RX ANT - OUT socket.

2) If you select Ant B (for TX) and push the RX button, the received
signal from Ant B appears at the RX ANT - OUT socket.

In both above cases there is no antenna connected to the FT-1000MP
Receiver UNLESS you have an antenna connected to the RX ANT - IN socket.

You could, as already suggested, for example :

(A) take the output from the RX ANT - OUT socket and connect it to a
separate RX with better filters or whatever and listen on it.

(B) take the output from the RX ANT - OUT socket and feed it thru a RX
preamp and route the output from the preamp back to the RX ANT - IN
socket.

(C) use a QRM Eliminator/Noise Phasing Unit such as the MFJ connected
between RX ANT - OUT and RX ANT - IN sockets.

Another point. On the low bands I use a vertical ant to transmit (Ant A)
with a separate quieter antenna for receiving which I connect to RX ANT
- IN. I push the RX Ant button on the front panel to do this. BUT NOTE :
the signal from the receiving antenna connected to the RX ANT - IN
socket never connects to the RX ANT - OUT socket regardless of switch
positions. In other words only Ant A or B (whichever you select for TX)
will connect to the RX ANT - OUT socket.

Confused yet??  I am! BTW there are other functions on the FT-1000MP
which I have yet to figure out after years of use!
