Hi all, I'm just new to the list. I had the chance to find a very clean and plain MP last week and I picked it up at a local store.
The rig is very nice (althoug used) and all is going through well. It is a 12Vdc version, no opt filters at all. I am mostly a CW op and my main concern is to have a nice machine for keying... well, I'd surely make the clicks mod by INRAD - or something closer - but at this time I am experiencing something annoying beside well known key-clicks: when I turn up the power to 100W, I can hear a very bad "bass-boost" - a bass reverb - on the speaker and in my headphones. This causes a distorted note and a "sticky" manipulation both in monitor mode than in "spot"mode. beside that, the note coming out is something lower and it produces something like "old-Russians" tone, quite close to a laser-beam gun in sci-fi movies! In this way barefoot keying with 100W becomes hard...
This happens only with QRO; if the power is turned down to 50W or lower, the reverb on the headphones disappears completely, and QSK is clear and nice as it should be. Some people suggested to me that it could be an RF-return, but there is no return at all with my ACOM1010 on agt 500W! neither in SSB... and I never experienced RF troubles before with different radios and the the same aerials...
Maybe it's a problem with my ALC?
I've read something similar in VA3CR's site about SSB, and the trouble was shot with a different DC cable (maybe a cable failure)...
I'm in love with this radio. Truely, I come from an IC-7400 and this receiver rocks, even without mods. But I am experiencing this strange thing, which never happened to me before. Hopefully you can help me?
Thank you so much!
