Look at the schematic for the radio.

The simplest solution is to use a DPST
switch in the DC Power line to engage both
supply voltages together.

Make sure the supplies are frame grounded
together.  

Your argument still does not convince me
the switchers are better than the linear
supplies.

It's like the conundrum of not putting 
flooded cell batteries on concrete.
