[1000mp] DE K3AN- Panel Buttons Not Responding

An hour or so into the ARRL 160M contest last night I noticed my 1000MP was tuning down the band all by itself. I hit the lock button which stopped it, but I noticed I was still able to tune the radio. It was a few contacts later that I realized none of the front panel buttons were responding- band, filter, IPO, memory, tuner, none of them.

It took a while to remember seeing that problem discussed on this forum, and a lot longer to find it in the archives. Yep, it was the old neon lamp wire problem, where switching noise on those wires blocks button press signals to the CPU. I lost additional time removing the covers, loosening the front panel, and repositioning the wires, but the problem cleared up.

Here's the thing- this radio hasn't been moved AT ALL in at least the last 3 months. But the wires must have shifted ever so slightly anyway. So when you encounter total panel button lockup on your 1000MP, this is the first thing you should try. It also may be responsible for reports of self-tuning that are attributed to a problem with the shuttle jog.
