Thank you for sharing that with us Leslie; that was excellent detective
work. Intermittent problems are the most difficult to find.

Subject: [1000mp] ft 1000mp mark v RX intermittent
Hi all
Back along I posted looking for help on an intermittent problem with RX in
the main receiver, the transceiver would go completely deaf on all bands
except sub receiver. The rig would come back to life with a tap on the
casing, thinking it must be a dry solder joint or relay it has taken this
long to find the source of the problem. last night armed with a hairdryer I
took off the top cover of the rig, lifted out the tuner casing put it aside
of the rig all still wired to and connected to the rig. I powered up the rig
connected it to the antenna and turned on the hairdryer to put some nice
warm air into the rig not to hot of course and within 30 seconds no
RX. I picked up the tuner unit and gave it a little tap still no RX. I then
gave the cover plate over the vco board a little tap and the rig was
receiving again. I took out the board and found that the crystal x4001
62-237mhz had a bad solder joint. Re-soldered and all is fb now.
Cheers
Leslie
