[1000mp] My sick MP

This is the famous PLL board and it just happened to
me about 9 months ago. It is caused by cold solder
joints, that can sometimes be repaired by going over
them with a soldering iron. I tried the repair but
couldn't get it going, so had to get a new board from
Yaesu (they still make them). It cost $250 for the
board! If you have the service manual, and don't mind
getting into the rig, turn to page 3-4 and remove the
local unit. The bad connections are somewhere behind
the Main Loop VCO units TC4001-4004. Carefully
inspect the solder connections and see if you can find
one that is suspect. I ended up taking this board out
and putting it back in numerous times, with varying
degrees of success. One time I fixed 20m but another
band developed problems. I finally gave up and bought
a new board. Then I had to go through the alignment
procedure as it was not factory aligned. The new
board has been working well ever since.

Good luck and feel free to write at
