Hi Chuck,
I've just been able to check how a newer (2005) 1000mp Field was dealing
with this problem, and to my disappointment, it is exactly the same ! I
forgot to check the CPU version though, but it sounds really crazy that
Yaesu hasn't bothered correcting this until the end, as (if I'm not
mistaken), 2005 was the last year of production for this rig.
Have you tried the "hidden" menu trick I talk about in my previous
message ? It should work for you as well... You can activate the "9-x"
menus by pressing "fast" and "lock" under VFO A while powering on the
rig. They are then accessible the usual way, by pressing "fast" and
"ent", as for the other menus. At first I was intrigued because I could
not change the values by rotating the tuning knob, but that was just
because by pressing "fast" and "lock" I had engaged the "lock" !
Then go to menu 9-9 and turn the knob until you reach the "usa" setting
(or "gen" if you'd prefer), exit the menu mode, and you should be done !
Best regards,
