[1000mp] 1000MP Mark V Field 160m band limitation for Europe ?

Hi there, I'm a new OM and a new member of this list, I have recently
acquired a nice FT-1000MP Mark V Field from another OM in France, and I
tumbled on one little problem (which I finally was able to circumvent
but I'm interested in your opinion about it).
I noticed that on my transceiver, I wasn't allowed to transmit under
1.830 MHz, despite the fact that the lower limit in Region 1 for 160m
has been 1.810 MHz for a while now (probably long before my transceiver
was manufactured, which was in 2002).
I finally went to the hidden menu 9, and changed the menu 9-9 setting
from "NEU-EU" to "GEN", just as for the TX general coverage mod. Of
course, I know that having a true TX general coverage on the Mark V
Field involves making a hardware modification (moving a resistor), but
that's not what I'm interested in, I'd just like to be able to transmit
where I am allowed to, and that includes 1.810 to 1.830 MHz ! :-)
Without the hardware mod, transmission is in fact allowed within a 500
kHz band which includes the amateur band (in this case: 1.5 to 2 MHz),
just as in the "older" FT-990 and probably others as well. This means
that there are in fact 2 limitation mechanisms in the FT-1000MP Mark V
Field: the "old" one, which has a 500 kHz resolution, and a newer one,
probably in software, that is supposed to limit your transmission to the
exact boundaries of the bands. If you pay attention, you'll probably
notice which one of those 2 features is in effect when you try to
transmit out of band: if the "GEN" light is on, then you're definitely
out of the 500 kHz band surrounding the amateur band. If the "GEN" light
is off, you're within the 500 kHz limit, but when you try to transmit
then, "Off Band" blinks on the display, instead of the frequency.
The only problem is: the "NEU-EU" setting for Europe, at least in my
version of 2002 (CPU 2.21), is flawed, with its 1.830 limit !
I'm very surprised that I couldn't find any information about that "bug"
on the Internet. Maybe there are only a few transceivers affected ? I
can't believe that nobody in Europe ever realized there was a problem. :-)
Does anybody out there know what band limitations are implied by the
other settings (there are 17 of them, some of them have names, the
others are just numbered), here they are (separated by slashes):
JA/1/USA/JAIA/NEU-EU/S/JARD1/JARD2/8/9/10/11/12/NEU-NCR/14/15/GEN
So far: NEU-EU seems to be Europe, USA is obviously USA, JA is probably
Japan (but what is JAIA then ?), GEN is general coverage. What are the
others ? Especially NEU-NCR ?
Thanks for any info !
73's & best regards,
Bruno - F8FIV
