[1000mp] MP -vs- D

Here's a question for all you knowledgeable people,
(actually two questions).

1.  On the front panel of the Yaesu FT-1000D the knob
all the way at the bottom and on the right hand side
of the front panel, (I think it's Keying Speed, or something),
not only turns clock and counter-clockwise, but also 
pushes in and detents.

What is the detented or not-detented effect?

2. When turning the radio over on its top,
with the bottom cover removed, the front panel
facing me, on the printed circuit board on the back
right side, there is an in-line DIP switch with four
positions, and no reference either in the user manual
or in the comprehensive Service Manual (CD-ROM).

What do these switches affect?
