[1000mp] Subjective Comparison of FT 2000 to Mark V

Hi John:
Well, I just finished flashing the firmware, and I have upgraded the new
FT2K this afternoon. There are several issues which were addressed, some
successfully, some not.
Right now I am ready to begin the side by side comparison of the two radios.
I will let you know after a while, and after I do some more menu and
service menu adjustments on the new radio.
Right now, there is a big issue for me with the processor. It supposedly
was fixed in the new firmware, but doesn't appear to be correct as yet.
Time will tell.
The receiver itself appears improved, substantially with the upgrade, more
on this latter.
By the way, just for the record, Steve Ford hosted that review on his
editor's page. But if you look at the top left hand corner on page 51, you
will see that I wrote the article.
There is indeed a difference between the quietness of the Field and the Mark
V, and if you get one of the Yaesu guys aside some time, he will admit that
to you. It is not possible to really know what the circuit differences are,
but there appear to be some differences, with the Field being the quieter
receiver.
The original FT2K software for DNR really didn't work very well. I'm hoping
the firmware flash will improve the noise reduction in the radio.
More later.
73 and Happy DXing,
Mike
