[1000mp] Quadra (Was: May be off topic...)

Hi Bill,

One additional question: Do you see the same erroneous SWR readings with the
tuner in and out of circuit?

The fact that you are seeing a 3.4:1 SWR reading at your exciter as well as
on the Quadra's SWR scale suggests that something in the signal path is
introducing reactance. If the high reading occurs with the tuner in-line,
this may indicate damage in the tuner area. If not, the damage may be in the
output T/R relay (I suggest this because you see the same error with the amp
in standby, which eliminates the LPF's.)

It may be a good idea to take the case covers and internal shields off the
PA cabinet, and look/sniff for burnt components. You can click the interior
pictures on my Quadra page for larger images to use as a guide. VS should
still have the service manual in stock.

Hope this helps.

Cheers for now, 73,

Adam,

Thanks for the info. The Amp actually works with the tuner engaged or
disengaged. I get full power. The turner tunes when engaged. Just that
the VSWR reading is wrong and some component(s) are burning. Even with the
amp in standby something changes the VSWR.

For example, with the amp in standby my dummy load reads a 3.4:1 VSWR
on both the amp's meter and on my transceiver. When I connect the dummy
load directly to the xcvr it shows a 1:1.

Thanks again... Bill
