Your T/R relay is fried.

It's a sealed unit; don't even think about fixing it. It needs to
be replaced.  You can do the work as the relay has pins
and is not an SMD. NAIA/Panasonic makes the replacement
which is also an upgrade in quality.

Keep banging your radio and pretty soon you will need
more than a relay.

The vacuum fluorescent display is not defective and many radios
take a moment or two to illuminate.

 from time to time it gets a bit deaf . it don't matter what frequency
or band your on it just goes deaf  and also what I have noticed is that
the display takes 5 seconds sometimes to come to life when powered up
from cold, even though its used every day. It was manufactured in 2005.
now when it goes deaf if I give it a little tap on the casing it comes
back to life again. I opened it up to see if there was anything
obviously loose inside but could not see anything can someone please
help thanks in advance.
