[1000mp] Shure 444d to 1000mp

Hi Greg.
>From my 1000MP drawings it appears that Yaesu is similar to Kenwood in that
the mic ground is carried separately from the main radio chassis ground. On
the 1000MP, mic ground is pin 7, and the main chassis ground is pin 5 on the
connector. So the radio is looking for a 4 wire mic connection. The Shure
444 series of mics is a 3 wire system with one common ground/shield for both
the mic "hot" and the PTT circuits. So you will have to select one of the
two connection points for the single ground conductor coming from the Shure
444. I did this a few years ago with a Shure 444 connected to a Kenwood
Radio and it worked fine with no audio problems at all. I sold the mic a
while back so I can't check and tell you for sure which ground I selected,
but I'm fairly certain it was the main radio chassis ground on the mic
connector because I don't think the PTT ground return should be connected to
the isolated mic ground return. Everyone who uses the Shure 444 mic with
modern day radios has crossed this bridge before, so surely someone that
remembers for sure what they did will respond to your email.
Also, check out the slide switch on the bottom of the mic stand and make
sure it is not causing a problem. Mine was not making good connection, so I
just wired around it and did not use it because I didn't need the function.
It's worth figuring out because the 444 is an excellent communication mic
that will really punch through the QRM and noise. Good Luck.

Subject: [1000mp] Shure 444d to 1000mp
OK, I'm stumped. After trying twice to connect a Shure 444D to my 1000mp I
need help. I have the pinout, and just need some advice on how to connect
the mike. Thanks. PS, these 8 pin connectors are a real pain with my big
hands and weak eyes.
