A quick read of the messages on that page suggests that this is not the same
problem, as most of the messages concern a *dead* receiver, with nothing
mentioned about tapping the key or PTT once to restore the path.

this is interesting and confirms that T/R relay is usually the culprit.
Even has some info about where it is located in the MarkV. N4ATS is quoted
as fixing many radios. Not sure if he is on this list.
