[1000mp] Re: Relay thing..deaf receiver

All,

My focus for finding a replacement is on the T/R switch relay. My only
concern is that finding a replacement that would work in an early MP like I
own would not be a suitable replacement in a MKV and/or Field. Please
forgive my lack of knowledge of the differences between the MP, MKV and the
Field. I have never owned a MKV or a Field. Are all of the above 100W
radio's or is one of them (Field?) a 200w rig with external power supply in
typical Yaesu fashion. I could do some research and figure it out but it's
probably quicker for the purpose of my learning to ask here. The reason for
the question is this...if one is a 200W rig it is very conceivable that it
uses a different T/R relay to handle the heavier RF currents...and if that
is the case can that rig be excluded from the pool of problematic radio's.
Has this problem been experienced by users of all the variants of the MP
series. Narrowing it a bit might make it easier to come up with a
solution...heck if the 200W rig (if that's the case) doesn't experience this
problem and the RF UNIT board layout is the same as the 100W rig with just a
different P/N relay that might be the solution. (I know that's a stretch
but it's worth looking at)

Exploring all angles here....

Some background....I've been doing component level technical work for 30+
years and have a well equipped shop to help figure this type stuff out. I
am an MP owner by chance. I picked up one from a friend who had stuck it in
the closet after it "acted up" and decided to sell it to me after hearing I
was looking for some InRad filters for my FT-1000D. A few in the MP filters
are the same as used in the D series. To make a long story short his MP was
full of InRad filters (no roofing) and I basically bought it for the value
of the filters. It was a very near mint radio without a scratch, original
boxes, Service manual, desk mic etc....so I became an MP owner. Only
problem I have found with it is occasionally the DSP system will go off into
never-never land after a key down cycle resulting in broadband high level
noise in the audio output reset only by powering the radio down. I plan to
replace the appropriate DSP board and eliminate the problem.

If anyone has an MP that they have relegated to a parts radio that has the
DSP boards in it that they would like to part out I would be interested,
otherwise I will probably purchase them from Yaseu if they are still
available.

Any input on the relay data needed to figure this out would be very helpful
to the group effort. We should be able to fix this problem.....
