Thank you Cecil, for your ufb post about the possibly involved relays,
concerning the deaf RX ("RELAY INFO").

A post like this is helpful and worth the disk space it covers on the
QTH.NET servers ;-) Not only, that it provides a kind of step-by-step
checklist to the more inexperienced readers. Posts like this one also remind
us all that analyzing a problem in such a structured manner is the most (and
perhaps the only) successful way, to come to a solution ;-)

I opened the top cover of my Mk-V Field and spent a look at the antenna
switching relays (also labelled RL8701/8702 in the Field). Their type is
'NAIS DS1E-M-DC12V' which seems to be very common because you can find
datasheets and a lot of suppliers with just one click in Google.

Although one can think about the contacts of one of these relays getting
damaged by a nearby lightning stroke, or by switching between 'ANT A' and
'ANT B' while transmitting (don't know, if this is possible at all and just
don't wanna try ;-) I'm quite sure that the antenna switching relays are not
the reason for the deaf RX. If we read carefully, what Rich, WA7KMA wrote:
"A brief tap of the key or ptt brings it right back", then my number one
guess would also be the T/R switch relay.
Maybe, digging a bit deeper into the board grave will show, that this relay
is also a vy common type and could be purchased and changed easily.

Garry, NI6T wrote: "He eventually replaced a bunch of parts, including at
least one DIP relay, which were included when the radio was returned; no
reference designators were provided, so I cannot tell you exactly what was
replaced." Chances are tiny, since this happened a few years ago, but if
Garry kept the changed parts or noticed the type of the parts, this could
also give a hint, which of the relays was changed.

Hope this helps - 73 de Uwe, DL8UF
