[1000mp] relay thing...deeeef receiver

To my knowledge, no one has suggested a more suitable relay, but there might
be one.

My problem appeared for the first time when the radio was about six months
old. I do not operate consistently, either--I DX when there is something new
to chase, and I contest intensely every so often. But, for me, the first
incidence was during a DXpedition (3B9R), which of course is a time of heavy
use.

Hello,
This is my experience as well:
Cecil:
quote from Garry, NI6T

Good work, but for my money, as your logic indicates, the T/R relay is the
culprit. I believe that, while experiencing attenuation, I have switched
antennas A/B and back and it is not that relay. The T/R relay is the only
one being toggled when the condition appears. Also, I do not believe
lightning is the major causative factor. I live in an area (coastal W6) with
extremely low lightning incidence, and am down in a canyon as well.
end quote

I have not ever used an amp. Worse is that I almost never transmit, which
given the contact dewetting mode of failure that has been postulated,
probably makes my rig more susceptible. That is where I am worrying because
it seems to me that unless the relay contacts have been improved or Yeasu
comes up with a low DC current to add to the contacts to prevent the
dewetting, I am just going to have the problem all over again. Are there
better relays (that fit the board) or has Yeasu changed the spec. on the
relay and improved things? I suspect a partial solution is to rag chew a lot
(I am pretty much CW only), and cycle the T/R relay, but that is not
answering my needs right now.
thanks
