[1000mp] Relay thing..deaf receiver

Scott:

You have correctly described the technical problem, which is *well-known*
and longstanding--I encountered it for the first time in 1999 and it has
indeed been discussed here on several occasions. While it may be true that
"most" owners have not experienced it, there are a lot of FT1KMP'S and Mk.
V's out there, so the number of affected owners is substantial. (Please
recall that only a few Corvair gas tanks exploded, but that was scant
comfort to other owners.)

The *real* problem is that Yaesu, to my knowledge, has never acknowledged
this problem, much less provided a remedy, much less a remedy that does not
involve an owner spending a substantial sum for a fix that will likely not
be permanent. This is what sets me off, and what has set off others. This
issue is not about TenTec, TenTec owners, or the motives of listees who have
contributed comments. Such internal food fights generate heat and hurt
feelings, but accomplish less than nothing. It is about Yaesu's failure to
deal with this problem in an open manner--nothing else.

It is reasonable to presume that Chip or someone else at Vertex reads this
list and is aware of this and the other problems discussed here. Therefore,
if no info or assistance has been forthcoming for *at least* seven years, it
is also reasonable to conclude that the lack of assistance is due to
*policy* at Vertex/Yaesu. That is, they do not--for whatever reason--intend
to deal with this problem.

Is this reasoning sound? I think so. As I mentioned previously, I have
discussed the dropout problem at length, face-to-face, with Miki, WA6F, who
is at or near the top of the Yaesu pyramid in the US. There can be *no*
doubt that management is aware of this problem. The lack of response has
been consistent. If someone can draw another conclusion, I should like to
hear their reasoning.

On some MPs, Mark Vs, and Fields, a relay goes bad, which causes the
receiver to apparently lose sensitivity. I've had it happen to one of my
Fields, as have others. Mine was under warranty and was repaired and the
problem never reappeared, but I only had it a few months after the
repair. As far as I can tell, it's a fairly common issue, but most
owners never seem to have a problem. It's never occurred in my newer
Field (5G SN) so I'm not sure if Yaesu has come up with a fix or mine
just doesn't have the problem.

I think there is some fairly detailed info in this list's archives and
elsewhere on the net, if you need more detailed info.
