You answered your own question! As my post said he only wanted
an estimate. He left numerous emails to Yaesu and calls and they
were unresponsive over a 6 month period. Finally he did manage to
contact some woman in customer service who said they would send
out a lightning damage letter to him which took 3 weeks by the way,
and he specifically said not to repair the radio. The day the letter went
out to him he got a call from Yaesu telling him 800 bucks was charged
to his credit card and the radio was on its way back to him. Real Nice!
Customer Service and Yaesu Communication!! Judging by your comment
above saying 800 dollars is cheaper than a replacement Mark V, well
would op for a fix but this person would not and neither would I. Your
speaking about lightning Scottie not a power surge. All he wanted was
a diagnosis for his insurance company.

You sure don't give people the benefit of the doubt do you. Where is
the objectivity of the 4-6 people who defends Yaesu at all costs?
As a Mark V owner I have every right to mention the pros and cons
of the Mark V. I paid my 3000 dollars like everyone else. I had to
put in an Inrad Roofing Filter and Inrad Crystal Filters costing over
700 dollars to make up for the deficiencies of this rig so one should
not be attacked with trying to live with these miserable failings. The
manual even has many mistakes where yes means no and no means
yes. But I am sure you will attack and not agree with is stated correctly
here.
This is the last of postings on this topic so you as always have the last
word. Just don't drink too much Kool-Aid Scottie. By the way you
stated awhile back the Elecraft K2 was a toy!! To be informed perhaps
you should go to the Elecraft website and click on Rig Comparisons and
see how that little toy kicks the butt off the Mark V on the receiver specs!
