YMMV indeed.  the first and so far the only thing i ever tried to buy 
on ebay got me totally hosed out of 500 bucks.   i now am beginning to 
use it again but under the following extremely limited circumstances:  
I know who the seller is (not hiding behind some "handle") and I can go 
and see the item in person before bidding.  in my opinion, anything 
else on there is a dice roll.  by the way the same can be said for 
other internet selling sites such as qth and eham:   know your seller.  
I have always had a raw deal buying sight unseen from individuals and 
now _never_ do it.   too many dishonest hams sorry to say.
