[1000mp] MPV Driving Amp

Hello Bob:

The most likely issue you could run into is oscillation of the amplifier.
This is easily noticed as increased idle current with no drive when you key
the amplifier, and you may or may not see the output power on your
wattmeter, depending upon the frequency of oscillation. Along with this,
you will have some distortion on your signal as well when driving the amp.

This is due to the additive phase shift lag introduced by the tuner, in
summation with your amps tuned input.

This may or may not be present based upon the equipment design itself.

I have seen the Mark V work well with the internal tuner, with no issue, with
several amplifiers such as SB 200, SB 220, and Alpha 76CA, all with no
oscillation.

The same radio when used with a Commander 2500HF, was always problematic and
the amp oscillated. The only way to eliminate the problem was to turn off
the internal tuner and retune the amp input for the lowest SWR.

73 and Happy DXing,

Mike
