[1000mp] FT-1000MP FSK cable

Hi all:
I use FSK on RTTY with my Field. Works very nice, now that I have the serial
port problem taken care of. I have one the more modern computers with only
one serial port. I have a whole bunch of things in the shack that want
serial ports . So I have 4 USB to serial adapters of various makes plugged
in. I put in a battery backup device for the computer and the automatic shut
program demanded to be on com 1, my only "real" serial port. So I moved my
FSK to one of the USB serial ports. The PTT "push to type" switch worked
well, but I was having a hard time making a contact, finely someone told me
that he couldn't copy me as my signal was garbled and my baud rate looked
like it was over 100 baud. After a lot of digging it seems that most, if not
all USB to serial port adapters have a problem. The UARTS in them have a
hard time handling 45 baud, 5 bit code. As most software toggles the
transmit data line to do FSK this means that most USB to serial adapters
CAN"T be used to drive a FSK adapter, or for sure the 3 different brands I
have can't. I dumped the battery backup software and moved the FSK adapter
back to the "real" serial port and all works as it should.
By the way I like using 2N7000 MOSFET's for my switches, They are much more
rugged, pulls the voltage on the lines in the Mark V field lower, needs very
little current from the source to switch, and doesn't cost any more than a
general purpose transistor
