[1000mp] ARB-704 and Yaesu Mark V

Been running driving an Alpha 87A with a MK-V for four years with no
problems.  I guess I have it hooked up correctly ;o)

Well, you could always RTFM, but why spoil your fun?  The info on this is on
page 12 of the Mk5 manual, but the short answer is that you can indeed
damage the radio - though perhaps not with the AL-80B.
